September 23 Family Newsletter

Seaton Families,

Welcome to Fall! Thank you for joining us for Back to School Nights. We enjoyed having families visit classrooms, meet the Seaton team, enjoy snacks, and experience the Seaton cafeteria.

As the weather changes, we encourage families to send students to school wearing layers of clothing or a sweater. Students will continue to spend time outdoors for recess, physical education classes, and fire drills throughout the fall season.

Families will receive the Seaton Family Newsletter bi-weekly on Mondays. These newsletters will be distributed via email, Remind, and will also be available on the Seaton website. You can expect to find information about school news, upcoming events, and parent updates. Please find attached the September 23 Family Newsletter.

Save the Dates

October is a busy month at Seaton! See the updated Family Events Calendar!

PTO Updates

This Thursday, 9/26, from 5 PM onwards, the PTO is hosting a family-friendly fundraiser at Dacha. A $10 donation gets you extended happy hour and a raffle ticket for a Dacha boot.

On Saturday, October 5, Seaton families are invited to Family Art Day at the National Gallery of Art. There will be art making, face painting, bilingual story time, and a presentation by the U.S. Poet Laureat Ada Limon! A bus will leave from Seaton at 9:30 AM and return at 1 PM. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP here so we can ensure adequate bus space! Families can also go directly to the event, which runs from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The PTO is putting together committees to plan for several upcoming milestones, including Seaton’s modernization during SY 2026-27 and 2027-28, our corresponding move to swing space, and the development of a new middle school into which Seaton will feed starting in SY 2028-2029. Each of these events will require several years of advanced planning, and the PTO is seeking parent volunteers to make sure we advocate for the best for our students and teachers! If you are interested in participating in any of these committees, please fill out this form. More details will be available at the next PTO general body meeting on October 9!

General Body Meetings. Thanks to everyone who attended our first general body meeting earlier this month! We had a great first meeting and loved seeing all of the new (and old!) stingers in the room. Please mark your calendars for our next meeting–October 9th at 5:30pm. Pizza will be served + we will have childcare available. We will meet in the library.

The PTO is hoping to bridge a technology gap in our classrooms this year. Due to DCPS cuts, the lower grades are facing a shortage of devices that support students in reading and mathematics. We want to make sure that every child has access to programs like i-Ready and STmath– so if you or anyone you know has old laptops, iPads, or other devices that can connect to the internet that are no longer being used, to please consider donating devices to the school. Please email president.seatonpto@gmail.com if you would like to arrange a drop off.

WhatsApp Group. Don’t forget to sign up to connect with families in your classroom. You can find your classroom WhatsApp group QR code here. And if you would like to be a room parent—please let us know by emailing president.seatonpto@gmail.com
