September 2 Seaton Family Newsletter

Seaton Families,

We were so excited to welcome our Stingers back to school! We had a fantastic first week with Kindergarten through Grade 5 and a wonderful first two days with PK3 and PK4. It felt like we never left; students jumped right into practicing routines, reconnecting with friends on the playground, and even our lunch schedule ran on time (which almost never happens at the start of the school year!). Thank you for your support in helping us launch the year so smoothly.

This week, classes are completing beginning-of-year assessments and launching their first units of study. Seaton teachers are excited that, together, we are setting the tone for a year filled with growth, joy, and high expectations.

We are also sharing the September 2nd Family Newsletter, which includes school updates, important dates, and PTO news.

Best! Principal Torres

PTO Updates

Seaton Families,

I hope everybody had a wonderful first week of school. For those who are returning, welcome back, and for our new families, welcome to the Seaton community!

I am the mom of Jai (2nd grade) and Navya (K) and I am this year’s Parent Teacher Organization president. The PTO is a group of parents and teachers who work to build community at Seaton, provide funding for teacher support and appreciation, and generally make Seaton a joyful place for our Stingers to come to school every day. You can read more about the PTO here. As a parent or caregiver to a Seaton Stinger, you are automatically a member of the PTO, and it is 100% free – there are no dues to participate.

Last year, we were busy! We organized fun community events like the Spring Carnival and Fall and Winter Movie Nights, we hosted academically enriching events like the Science Fair and Family Math Night, and we held our first ever Winter Wonderland dance for grades 2-5. We also launched afterschool clubs for the first time, offering eight different clubs over the school year. We celebrated teachers, provided direct support to families, and more.

This year, we hope to continue our efforts to connect families and provide enrichment (and fun) to our Stingers. We are also looking forward to our school’s upcoming modernization, starting next August, and our corresponding move to swing space at 300 Bryant St NW. We also acknowledge that, in the middle of the excitement of the first week of school, our city and our neighbors are facing a lot of uncertainty. Please read on for ways you can support the PTO’s efforts to make sure every student, teacher, and family at Seaton has an amazing year.

Get Involved with the PTO

If you can’t make the meeting, there are so many other ways to get involved.

  • You can sign up to join our volunteer list here! We are currently in need of room parents to help coordinate within homerooms. Also, if you have any particular interests, please feel free to include them in your sign-up.
  • You can donate to the PTO here. Our fundraising goal for the year is $40,000. Our two biggest fundraisers are Giving Tuesday and our Spring Auction, and we host other smaller events throughout the year. Any donation, whether it’s $5 or $500, makes a huge difference for our small PTO, and 100% of your contribution is invested directly back into the school.
  • Join the WhatsApp community to connect with other parents and stay up to date on the latest news from the PTO and the school. You can sign up for your homeroom’s WhatsApp group there as well.
