November 13 Family Newsletter

Seaton Families,

Our Seaton community continues to show up strong in our values of Responsibility and in how we show up for one another! Seaton Stingers have been learning about Respect and Kindness during SEL lessons, focusing on how our actions reflect those values and how they impact others and our community. If you visit our school, you will see Footprints throughout the hallways showing how students are committing to demonstrating Respect and Kindness.

Thank you for your support as we get ready to host the Seaton Bee Market! Please continue to bring donations to the front office. The Bee Market is a free market open to all Seaton families, and all donations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Bee Market will take place next Thursday, November 20, from 3:15–4:00 PM in the Seaton Cafeteria. Families and community members can donate toys, food, housewares, and clothing.

Attendance Matters!

Consistent on-time arrival and staying until the end of the school day are essential to your child’s success. When students arrive late or leave early, they miss valuable instruction, disrupt their learning routine, and lose opportunities to build important connections. Every minute counts—morning routines set the tone for the day, and afternoon lessons often include key reviews or preparation for the next day’s learning.  As a friendly reminder, the Seaton school day runs from 8:45 am – 3:15pm.

We understand that occasional appointments or emergencies happen, but please make every effort to have your child at school on time each day and remain until dismissal. Together, we can help every student build strong habits, confidence, and a love for learning!

Did you know that every classroom has a parents chat in WhatsApp?
Room parents and the PTO send out important messages through these groups, and they’re a great way to stay in touch with other parents in your child’s class. They are also used to set up playdates, share birthday party invites, organize class gifts, and more. To join your classroom groups and connect with other parents: [link removed]

  • Look for your child’s teacher under “Groups you can join”.
  • Click on the teachers name
  • Click the Join Group button
  • Please reach out to president.seatonpto@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Seaton Families,

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been proud to see how much our community has stepped up to help families struggling during the government shutdown. Thanks to your assistance, the PTO has funded $3,000 in grocery gift cards (with more on the way) and secured donations of 100 turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please keep the food pantry donations coming, and contribute your gently used clothing and household goods to the Bee Market on November 20! As always, please reach out to Ms. Daisy in the front office if you need food assistance during these difficult times. Read on for additional updates!

.

Holiday Cards

As we enter the holiday season, you can support the Seaton PTO by purchasing holiday cards through Minted. Use the code FUNDRAISESEATON for 20% off your order, and 10% of the sale comes back to the PTO.

.

Upcoming Events

Our friends at Cleveland Elementary are hosting a Christmas Tree Sale and Holiday Market at the Sandlot at 1900 7th St NW (the former CVS), from Nov. 28-30. The market will be open each day from 9 AM – 6 PM. You can reserve a tree in advance or stop by to pick one up and support a great cause in the process. This is a great way to get your Christmas tree and support a neighborhood school at the same time. A flyer for the event is attached.

Looking ahead, we know that holiday calendars fill up, so if you’re the parent of a 2nd-5th grader, please save the date for our Winter Wonderland Dance on Friday December 12 from 7-9 PM. And it’s never too early for your Stinger to start designing their experiment for the Science Fair, which will be held on Friday January 30 at 9 AM.

.

Swing Space Playground and Green Space Update

The next community meeting for the playground and fields project at KC Lewis, which includes the playground for our swing space at 300 Bryant St NW, will be held on December 2 from 6-7:30 PM at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Updates on the project can be found on our modernization/swing space page.  We’d love to see a solid contingent of Seaton families so our voices can be heard – please try and attend if you can! If you cannot attend, you can also share your feedback with president.seatonpto@gmail.com and directly to Christopher Dyer for DPR (christopher.dyer@dc.gov) and Brittany Hughes for DGS (brittany.hughes@dc.gov).

Save the Date: Giving Tuesday, December 2

Save the date for our biggest fundraiser of the year: Giving Tuesday is on December 2. Our fundraising goal this year is $15,000, and last year we raised nearly $20,000, which has allowed us to expand our events and afterschool offerings this year and start planning ahead to our swing space transition. We know that there are many worthy organizations for your donations, but please consider a donation to the Seaton PTO on Giving Tuesday this year. More details coming soon!
