Seaton Families,
We had an exciting weekend at Seaton! Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Spring Carnival and helped make it such a special event for our community. A huge shoutout to our custodial team and Officer Boone for supporting all school events and helping keep our community safe. We also want to celebrate our Seaton Girls on the Run team, who completed their 5K this weekend with 18 students participating! Thank you to our GOTR coaches and buddy runners for encouraging and supporting our student athletes every step of the way!
Reminder: After school registration for grades K–5 started today. Families can complete registration through MOST DC.

School Safety Drills.
May Fire Drill. This drill takes place school wide. All students and staff evacuate the building to their secure location and return following the end of the fire drill.
May Lockdown Drill. Our school will be conducting a Lockdown Drill during the month of May. This routine exercise takes place twice a year to practice safeguarding our school community from potential dangers within or outside of our building. During a lockdown drill, students are moved to the safest area of the room, away from doors and windows. The window shades are drawn, classroom door windows are covered, and the lights are turned off. While the drill is underway, all exterior doors are locked, and entering or exiting the building is not permitted until the all-clear is given. We ask that families refrain from coming to the school during this time, as you will not be allowed to enter the building until the drill is complete.
Lockdown Drill for ECE. Families of PK3 and PK4 students are able to opt-out of participating in this drill. Please contact Principal Torres with any questions at veronica.torres@k12.dc.gov

PTO News and Updates
Seaton Families,
We had such a great turnout for last week’s Spring Carnival – thank you so much to everyone who came! The biggest shoutout to our amazing events team, led by Angela Parsons-Herrington and Anna Cavnar, who spent so much time putting this event together. We are all so grateful to the many volunteers who stepped in to set up carnival games, grills burgers and dogs, serve popcorn and ice cream, break everything down and clean up, and just generally bring the magic for our kids. Finally, a big thank you from all of us to our wonderful custodians, Mr. Kelly and Ms. Prince. We have such a special community, and events like Spring Carnival really bring that home.
As our school year winds down, we have one last PTO volunteer opportunity, at Field Day on June 12. We know that the end of year can be a busy time, but this one is truly so much fun, and a highlight for the students. There are two separate shifts: 8:45-11 AM for PK4-1st grade, and 12:45 – 3 PM for 2nd-5th grades. You can sign up here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14bVyoGr5MPlngKkDAwG_jLNXlTr84owt/edit?gid=1146092240#gid=1146092240.
Finally, as we end the year, we are actively seeking parents to join committees for the upcoming school year. Joining a PTO committee is a great way to engage with the school community, meet other parents, and look cool to your kids. Our committees are: afterschool enrichment, teacher appreciation, events, communications, fundraising, governance, family relations, yearbook/tshirts. We are particularly in need of help with communications (i.e. updating our instagram, sending emails), a yearbook coordinator (we have two teachers interested, we just need a parent to help too), a fundraising chair (with lots of support from me and others!) and people who may want to take the lead on a specific favorite event for the events committee. We are also engaging in a renaming process for Seaton and standing up a committee to seek community input on whether that should happen, proposing new names, and getting feedback. If you are interested in any of these, let me know!
Here’s the rest of what we have on deck for the year:
Dacha Happy Hour on Thursday, May 28, 5 – 8 PM: Dacha has been an incredible neighborhood partner to us over the years, including as a gold sponsor and a sponsor of our auction this year, and they’ve invited us back for one last year-end happy hour. This is not a fundraiser, just an opportunity to get together with friends and enjoy a night out in the neighborhood!
Free Nats Game on May 31, 1:35 PM: In order to be considered for tickets, please fill out this form by May 22, 2026. Tickets are for current students and families enrolled at Seaton. We have a limited number of tickets available, so they will be distributed first come, first-served in the order that we receive this form, with a max of 5 tickets per family. Tickets are sent electronically so you need to have the free MLB Ballpark app downloaded on your phone in order to access.
Last PTO Meeting of the Year on June 10, 5:30 PM: In addition to our normal updates, we’ll present and vote on a budget for the next school year. Pizza and child care provided!
