Seaton Modernization February 2026 Update
The Seaton School Improvement Team (SIT) met on Tuesday 2/17 to review schematic design for Seaton’s modernized building. The entire presentation can be viewed in English and Espanol. Design Highlights:
- The design team noted the community’s preferences from the design phase back in the fall.
- The current plans include a PK3/4 wing, a courtyard design to provide privacy on the playground, retaining the entrance on Rhode Island Ave NW and the garden in its current space, and large gathering spaces that can be connected.
- Enrollment projections have also increased, so that the plans include 3 classrooms for all grades PK3-3rd, and 2 classrooms for grades 4 and 5.

MOY Celebrations – Save the Date
Join us next week and save the date for Seaton Middle of the Year Awards Celebrations! Join us as we celebrate our students’ growth, hard work, and achievements during the first half of the academic year. We can’t wait to celebrate together!

Changes to the DCPS Calendar
DCPS released the following adjustments to the SY25–26 calendar resulting from the recent inclement weather closures. The changes have an impact to the student and teacher school calendar. See the flyer attached as well.
- Thursday, March 12 previously scheduled for Parent-Teacher Conferences, will shift to an instructional day for all students and teachers.
- Friday, March 13 will remain a Wellness Day with no school for students or teachers.
- Thursday, June 18 will be the last day of school for students.
- Monday, June 22 will shift to a Records/Professional Development Day and be the final day for teachers and staff.

Open Houses – Save the Date
We are pleased to invite you to our Open House so that you may have an opportunity to learn more about our academic programs and school community! Families can attend any of the dates listed:
- February 19 – 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the Cafeteria
- April 9 – 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Library

Deadline for Lottery Applications
Families interested in a new PK3 or PK4 seat must apply through the lottery system by March 1.
Submit your application online at myschooldc.org before the deadline to ensure your child is considered for the upcoming school year. Don’t miss this important opportunity, apply today!

Family Math Night
Join us for a night of fun and games for the entire family on March 18 from 5:30 to 6:30PM! Save the date.

February Drills
- Fire Drill. This drill takes place school wide. All students and staff evacuate the building.
- Shelter in Place Drill. In February our staff and students will participate in a Shelter in Place drill. Shelter in place means finding a safe location indoors and staying there until you are given an “all clear” or told to evacuate. You may be asked to shelter in place because of an active shooter; tornado; or chemical, radiological, or other hazard.

4th Grade NAEP Testing – Follow Up
Thank you, families, for your support with Grade 4 NAEP Testing. All students successfully completed the assessment!

PTO News and Updates
It was great to see so many families at our first ever Literacy Night last week. Our next PTO event is coming up next Friday: Winter Movie Night will be held on Friday, February 27, in the multi-purpose room from 6-8 PM. The students have voted and the movie is “Bad Guys 2”. We are also partnering with Duccini’s pizza for a takeout special – $18 gets you an XL one topping pizza, with $4 donated back to the PTO for each pizza. Mention Seaton when you order!

Finally, we are hosting a Piano Karaoke Fundraiser on Sunday, March 1, from 2-6 PM at Sid’s Gold Request Room in Union Market. Sid’s Gold will donate 15% of proceeds back to the PTO. Your kid is a star, so let them sing Pink Pony Club with a live pianist backing up their vocals!
