March Events and Key Dates  

March 30 – April 3 – Inclusion Spirit Week

CAPE Testing (3rd-5th grades) 

Every Spring, students in Washington, DC take the Comprehensive Assessments of Progress in Education (CAPE).  CAPE is viewed as an opportunity to showcase our students’ knowledge and all  

of the hard work teachers and students have put into teaching and learning this school year. This year, our testing days are as follow: 

  • Science (5th Only)- Tuesday, April 7th– Thursday, April 9th 
  • ELA (3rd-5th grades) – Tuesday, April 28th– Thursday, April 30th 
  • Math (3rd-5th grades) Tuesday, May 5th– Thursday, May 7th  

We encourage all students to be fully confident in their abilities and try their best.   Healthy habits are helpful- a full night’s sleep the night before a test, and a healthy breakfast the morning of.  As a reminder, breakfast is served at Seaton daily, 8:15- 8:40am.

Inclusion Spirit Week  

World Autism Acceptance Week runs from March 30 to April 6, centering around World Autism Acceptance Day on April 2nd. Seaton’s Inclusion Week, this year called 🧠BRAIN Week✨ to emphasize neurodiversity, will take place March 30- April 3.  

We are so lucky to be around so many beautiful minds at Seaton. During this week, our community will reflect on the amazing work we do here to make Seaton an accepting and welcoming place for all learners. Look out for the sharing of spirit week flyers, daily class lessons, and other resources within the upcoming weeks.

Modernization and Swing Site Page

Seaton Student vs. Parents Soccer Game  

Save the date for April 25th as an incentive to attend the Registration Event and register students for school year 2026-2027. We will host a Seaton Students vs. Seaton Parents soccer game.Moms and dads who are interested in participating can reach out Mrs. Katerina Matsa Katerina.eva.matsa@gmail.com or Ms. Duarte Fabiana.Duarte@k12.dc.gov

Multicultural Day  

Mark your Calendars for Seaton’s Multicultural Day! Friday, June 5th. As each year, we would love to have support from families to make this a successful learning experience for our Stingers. Reach out to your child’s teacher if you are able to support this year – Any help is welcome!

Discovery Theatre   

Thank you to the Seaton PTO for funding another visit from our friends at Discovery Theatre! On Tuesday, April 7, children in grades pre-k 3 through 2nd will see a performance of Powerful Pollinators. After the show, ask your child what they learned about pollinators, big and small, and how they do their part to keep the biodiversity of all our ecosystems thriving. This is a students-only performance.

Enrollment Season

Spring Open Garden Times 

First open garden time of the season will now by Monday, March 23, 3:30 to 4:30. We will begin weekly open garden times for the spring season! Students must be accompanied by a caregiver.

April 25, 10 am to noon will also be our Spring Garden Work Day. We are hoping to have lots of hands to help us clean up and beautify our garden for wonderful final season before our move to the swing space!

Open Houses – Save the Date 

We are pleased to invite you to our Open House so that you may have an opportunity to learn more about our academic programs and school community! Families can attend any of the dates listed:  

  • April 9 – 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Library 
  • April 25 – 9:30 am to 12:00 noon at Seaton

April Drills  

Fire Drill. This drill takes place school wide. All students and staff evacuate the building to their assigned zone.  

Reverse Evacuation Drill.  This drill takes place school wide.  With the reverse evacuation drill all students and staff that are outside of the building return to the inside of the building and do no exit again until an “all clear” is given.

Family Survey 

Attention Seaton Families! DCPS has launched the 2026 Panorama Survey, which measures social emotional learning, satisfaction, and engagement across staff, families, and students. Share your perspective by completing the survey: dcsays.dc.gov. Only one survey is needed per family. Available in a variety of languages.

Attendance Committee 

As the temperature changes and illnesses arise, please make sure you are contacting the school when your child cannot attend school. Reminder, not all absences are excusable. Please review the DCPS attendance policy here and if you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Mercado (school counselor and attendance poc) at abel.mercado@k12.dc.gov

Our PTO board nomination process is ongoing, with nominations closing tomorrow. The PTO board consists of the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and grade-level reps for PK3-1st and 2nd-5th grades. You can use this Nomination Form to submit nominations. You can nominate yourself! You can also sign up to learn more about our other committees, which put on events, run our afterschool clubs, and so much more.  The election will take place on April 8th at the next PTO general body meeting. Voting is only available in person, so please plan to attend the meeting, or arrange to drop your ballot off on April 8! 

Our next PTO meeting is next Wednesday, April 8, from 5:30-6:30. We’ll discuss middle-of-the-year test scores, next year’s budget, swing space updates, Spring afterschool clubs, upcoming events, and more! As always, pizza and childcare will be provided.

Our Spring Auction happy hour will be Monday, April 27 from 5-8 PM at Dog Daze! We are putting the final touches on the auction, but are still looking for any additional ideas. In the past, we have had parents donate tickets to Spirit matches, sewing lessons, a boat ride, travel planning services, and more. We have a lot of upcoming events! Save the date for Spring Carnival, Friday May 15, from 5:30-7:30 (and pray for no flash hurricane this year!) Finally, afterschool sign-up for vendor-led clubs starts this week. Please visit our afterschool website for more information (and please make sure not to sign your child up for multiple clubs on the same day!) If you’ve received a spot in a teacher-led club, these clubs are sponsored by the PTO at a cost of $50/child. To make sure we can make these opportunities available to all, if your family is able, please consider a donation to the PTO to help offset the cost!
