Euclid (New) Middle School

This page serves as a landing spot for all Seaton-related information about the new middle school, which is being called the Euclid Middle School.

Throughout the development of the school, two parents (Zandria Haines and Nick Nigro) and Principal Torres will represent Seaton’s interests as part of the Community Working Group.

DC Public Schools maintains a website for the planning activities, here: DCPS Facilities – Euclid MS. This site includes some basic information about the project along with select meeting presentations and recordings. In addition, DC Public School has a blog that will document the work of the group here: New DCPS Middle School – Euclid St – DCPS School Planning

We’ll spotlight notable updates on this page below.

April 2026: School Naming Survey

Councilmember Brianne Nadeau, in partnership with the Ward 1 & 2 Education Committee, has launched a survey for the Euclid school naming process and we are seeking your input as a member of the Community Working Group, and the input of as many people in the community that we can reach. This survey is designed to give community members an opportunity to share their preferences for the name of the new middle school, while helping us gather broad, meaningful input to inform the final decision.

Access the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSezuH5iYWsvBtc7rBZoX9GQOlB9X3gjLoXNpEKcRSK64qAxHw/viewform?usp=header

April 2026: Language Learning Panel

Director of Language Learning, Kate Burkett, outlined the various ways DCPS offers Dual Language and World Language courses at the middle school level. After the presentation, CWG members welcomed staff from Cardozo EC, Deal MS, and MacFarland MS who shared details about how their schools approach language learning. CWG members asked questions about earning high school credit in middle school, language options, and Advanced Placement (AP) language exams.

March 2026: Special Education

During the meeting, DCPS’ Division of Specialized Instruction (DSI) led a presentation on the range of services available to students, including self-contained classrooms. DSI explained that the new middle school will offer Behavior and Education Supports (BES) and Specific Learning Supports (SLS) classrooms. To learn more about these classrooms, review the meeting materials linked below or review the DCPS Special Education Family Guide. After the presentation, CWG members asked questions about special education and had an open discussion about building community across schools.

The meeting recording and presentation are available here:

January 2026: Building Schematic Feedback

During the meeting, the group had an open discussion about the schematic designs presented on January 7. Members of the CWG voiced opinions on storage capacity, interior colors, and ensuring school safety.

The meeting recording is on the DCPS Facilities website under “CWG Presentation: Schematic Design Feedback- 1/21/2026” Here are direct links:

January 2026: Interior Building Design

During the meeting, the architecture and design team working on the modernization presented a draft design for the interior of the building and asked the group to consider options for interior colors, use of space, and “adjacencies” (or the intentional layout of certain rooms near each other).

The meeting recording is on the DCPS Facilities website under “CWG Presentation: Schematic Design Introduction- 1/07/2026” Here are direct links:

September 2025: Concept Design Recap and Discussion

In September, the Community Working Group again met with DCPS Facilities Planning and Design Team along with the Design-Build firm working on the school. At this meeting, we openly discussed the 3 concept designs and learned more about the tradeoffs. For example, Concept 3 adds more interior square footage to the building but would remove natural light from several interior rooms.

The meeting recording and the design concepts are all on the DCPS Facilities website under concept “Concepts Feedback- 9/10/2025” Here are direct links:

August 2025: Facilities Overview and Concept Designs

In August, the Community Working Group met with DCPS Facilities Planning and Design Team along with the Design-Build firm working on the school. We discussed the expectations of the Community Working Group from the facilities team, and the Design-Build firm presented three concepts for the of the school. Importantly, the site is historic, so options are limited.

The meeting recording and the design concepts are all on the DCPS Facilities website under concept “Concepts Introduction- 8/28/2025.” Here are direct links:
