We hope you’re enjoying a joyful and restful summer! It was such a pleasure to meet many of our incoming ECE students during Saturday’s ECE Playdate. We also wrapped up a successful YMCA Power Scholars Summer Program this past week. Thank you, families, for being part of the summer program!
As we prepare to welcome students and families to the start of School Year 2025–2026, we want to extend a warm welcome to all. To our returning families, we’re excited to have you back for another year of learning and growth. To our new families, we can’t wait to meet you and welcome you into the most amazing school community in DCPS.

Families will receive teacher classroom assignments this week. Families will receive homeroom teacher information and grade level teacher information.

Back to School Resource List
The first day of school will be here in no time and we are really excited to welcome students back at the end of August. As the new school year approaches, we have created a list of community events providing free school supplies, health screenings, haircuts, and uniforms. Some of these events will require you to register. We will be updating the list of resources weekly so make sure you check back often. Seaton School Uniforms Information
We are proud to have a flexible school uniform that supports a sense of discipline and self-respect, enables students to concentrate on learning, and reduces peer pressure.
All Seaton students are expected to come to school daily wearing a uniform. PK3 to 5th grade students should come dressed in white tops or navy bottoms.
- Tops: white polo shirts, white shirts, or any Seaton logo t-shirt.
- Bottoms: dark blue bottoms, shorts, skirts, or jumpers (below the knee).
- Footwear: any closed-toe shoes for safety reasons.

After School Programming at Seaton
PK3 and PK4 After School – YMCA
PK3 and PK4 with an after-school seat are now able to complete the YMCA After School registration. Families that received a waitlist seat for PK3 and PK4 are also now able to enroll in the after-school program.
- Registration opens Monday, August 4
- The program runs daily from 3:15 to 6:00 PM, starting August 28 (first day of ECE)
- To register, email Jaysha Washington at jaysha.washigton@ymcadc.org to receive the form.
- The program has a cost of $360 per month with a one-time registration fee of $50

YMCA Kindergarten and Grade 1 After School Program
The YMCA is expanding its programming at Seaton to include a Kindergarten and Grade 1 After-School Academy. Priority will be given to families currently on the Kindergarten and Grade 1 waitlist for an after-school seat. About the Kindergarten and Grade 1 After School Academy:
- Registrations open Monday August 4
- Program runs daily from 3:15 to 6:00 PM, starting August 25 (first day of school)

ECE Play Dates – Update!
We were so excited to meet families during our first playdate this past Saturday!
Seaton will host the next ECE Playdate on Saturday August 16 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Seaton Playground (this is a change of dates from August 9 to August 16). Entrance through the Playground Gate at the corner of 10th and Rhode Island Avenue.

Family Teacher Meet and Greet
Seaton will host a Teacher Meet and Greet for ECE to Grade 5 families on Thursday August 21 from 4:00 – 5:00 PM in the Seaton Playground. The goal of the Meet and Greet is to welcome families to the new school year. Teacher and staff will be compensated for the hour. Classroom and support teachers will welcome families to the new school year.

Back to School Nights
Join us for Back to School Nights to learn more about the school community, priorities, and learning environments.
Wednesday September 17 – Grades PK3, PK4, Kindergarten, and Grade 1. Time: 5:30 to 6:30PM.
Thursday September 18 – Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, and Grade 5. Time: 5:30 to 6:30PM.

School Policies + Opportunities
DCPS Student Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy
During the 25.26 school year, Seaton ES will continue to implement a cell phone free school day. This ensures that we are protecting school time to focus on learning, wellness, and safety.
Upon arrival to school each day, students will turn in their personal electronic devices to the security officer on duty to be stored for the duration of the school day. Students may retrieve their personal devices upon dismissal (either from the regular school day or from after school).
DCPS and its staff do not assume responsibility for students’ personal cell phones or personal electronic communication devices if they are brought to school grounds. DCPS is not responsible for loss, damage, and/or theft of students’ personal cell phones or personal electronic communication devices if they are brought to school grounds. Field Trip Volunteers
For SY 25.26, family members interested in participating in school field trips need to complete the DCPS Volunteer Clearance Process before attending any field trip. Family Special Empowerment Series
Families are invited to attend a special education series hosted by the DC Special Education Team. There are two upcoming sessions.

Student Health Hub Events

Summer Youth Meals Program

Vision To Learn Program
Vision to Learn is offering free eye exams and prescription glasses (if needed) for kids ages 3–18 at various DC Public Library locations. Families must pre-register at https://vtldc.intakeq.com/booking.

PTO News and Updates
It’s hard to believe there are only a few short weeks left in summer. The PTO is gearing up for the new year with lots on the horizon!

Stay Informed and Connect with Classmates:
- With teacher assignments going out soon, the PTO has set up a new WhatsApp community for the 2025-26 school year. You can join the WhatsApp community here, and, once you receive your student’s teacher assignment, you can select your student’s homeroom to connect with other families in the same classroom.

Upcoming Back to School Events:
- Saturday, August 16 from 10-11 AM – ECE Playdate at Seaton – Come meet other ECE families and enjoy the beautiful milder weather! The PTO will have uniform tshirts for sale.
- Sunday, August 24 from 12-3PM – Seaton Family Back-to-School Brunch at Lulu’s Winegarden (owned by 1st grade/PK4 parents and named after one of our very own Stingers). Lulu’s will have their back garden patio reserved for our group (with awnings and fans to keep us cool). Lulu’s will donate 15% of every check which uses the following promo code (PROMO CODE: SeatonPTO) at checkout to the Seaton PTO. Lulu’s has a kid’s menu and it will also be DC Restaurant Week (so they will have a discounted 3-course brunch combo along with their regular a la carte menu). Reservations are recommended here (select the “Seaton Fundraiser” option). If you can’t make it on August 24, you can still support the PTO any time you dine at Lulu’s by adding the SeatonPTO code at checkout — Lulu’s has offered to donate 5% of the proceeds from any Seaton family’s meal back to the PTO through the end of the 2025-2026 school year!
- Wednesday, September 3 from 5:30-6:30 PM – Save the date for our first PTO meeting of the year, which will be held in the library. Pizza and childcare will be provided!

Join the Seaton Garden Team:
Do you love the Seaton Garden? Join the garden team and help with additional gardening tasks, including watering and harvesting over the summer. We are in particular need of volunteers through the end of summer to keep our garden hydrated until school starts, and anybody who may have a lawn mower or connection to a lawn service who can donate time to help us maintain the grass.
