At Seaton Elementary, diversity is a point of pride, something that is shared and celebrated within our community. Seaton families and staff represent over 35 countries around the world! On May 24th Seaton hosted its annual Multicultural Day. This day is just one way for our community to celebrate our ever-growing diversity.

We began the day with a school-wide assembly where students from Pre-K 3 to fifth grade prepared performances to showcase our different cultures. Following the assembly, students representing all our countries participated in a Parade of Nations around the Shaw neighborhood. After school, students, staff and families enjoyed tasting foods from various countries around the world.

Leading up to Multicultural Day each class was assigned a country to study. Additionally, each class participated in a door-decorating contest to engage and educate our school community on their country. The winners of this years contest were Croatia (Mr. Pineda’s Class), Ecuador (Ms. Skjei’s Class) and El Salvador (Main Office).

Seaton would like to thank all of the families, students, and staff members who dedicated their time, money, effort, and delicious food to make Multicultural Day such a memorable event. A special thank you to PTO, Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, Carr Maloney Law Firm, DC Scores, Teaching for Change and Wells Fargo for their generous donations.
